PC 287 Pre-Columbian Olmecoid Conical Bead
Conical or volcano shaped bead, from either the Mezcala or the Olmec Culture. Nobody seems to know for sure, how these types of beads were used. Some people think they were part of a Pre-Columbian ear ornament, but is possible that they had uses that we don’t quite understand. This bead is well formed. The stone material is atypical, in that it is somewhat “sandy”, and likely somewhat softer than the more typical river stones. The color is that of a deep green olive. Excellent condition.
32mm in diameter at the base; 18mm high, and 20mm in diameter at the top
