Ancient Suns

This is one of the most stunning large, round Mayan jadeite beads that I have seen. It is elegantly sculpted, and finely polished. The jadeite is a rare variegated charcoal gray in color. The core style drilling suggests that this bead was likely Olmec influenced, if not from the Olmec Culture itself. This is a true collector’s bead, although it would be absolutely elegant, worn as a single bead on a leather cord. The last photo shows of strand of this type of round Mayan jadeite bead in the Jade Museum in Chichicastenango, Guatemala. These were truly the beads of the Mayan elite.
